Built in 1927 it was a little venture to take on the established Hollywood studios and subsequently brought a creative movement to the city.
100-ish years later there is somewhat perfect symmetry with the Ace brand …everyone’s got to start somewhere but both these landed massive and mainstream success by sticking to their principles (if you shall build it, they shall come reigns true!)
You don’t have to look farther that the outside of the building to see the Ace’s trademark modern minimalist design. The towering neon light sign might reads “United Artists” but it screams “City of Angels”. The building also contains the United Artists theatre, which retains the look of an old time cinema, yet plays the latest flicks.
The hotel’s trendy bar, restaurant and rooftop are hotspots that attract LA creatives, both visitors and locals, and provide a great places to chill with the like-minded.
With a location on the up and and all the comforts one would expect, all the details together remind you why Ace is atop its cultural curation game. On the interior, its a work of art thanks to GREC Architects and Commune Design. Salvaging the buildings rough edges and adding touches of modernism nods to significant periods in Hollywood’s history, from the Twenties on up to the golden age of the Seventies and beyond, and somehow wrapping that up in a boutique hotel that defines eclectic postmodernism.
There is so much more to report about this awesome LA destination. Check out Taylor & Elaine’s stay at the ACE DTLA (Downtown LA) here
