Ola Colombia! It’s travel Tuesday and while we haven’t been yet, luxury boutique hotel Casa San Agustín only makes us want to go more!
Set within the walls of the Old Town in the port city of Cartagena de Indias. Built between the 14th and 19th centuries, it has the most extensive fortifications in South America and its 11km wall encompassing the Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
One of the three most important ports in the West Indies, and therefore a target for pirates as the city flourished, the port created great prosperity, and the presence of royalty and the wealthy spurred the development and construction of many large casas.
The 30 rooms of Casa San Agustin were just that – 3 separate colonial homes that were lovingly restored and adjoined with a mix of charm meets contemporary Colombian life.
Designed by Kelley McRorie of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Casa San Agustin was designed to feel more like a home than a hotel: who doesn’t love staying in a well curated and appointed home?!
From the original frescoes in the library to high dark wooden beamed ceilings

to the enchanting open-air courtyard pool and historic aqueduct lush with local flora.
or the rooftop terrace with city views, guests can relax in solitude.
Opened in early 2013, awards were bestowed later that year including Elite Traveler Top Suites, Robb Report Top 100, Conde Nast Travel Hot List US & Travel Hot List Spain, Trip Advisor’s Hot New Hotels, Fodor’s 100 Hotel Awards, Vogue Australia’s Hot Hotels and the IIDA Will Ching Award for Interior Deisgn IIDA. It’s certainly not hard to see why! Imagine hanging in the “Alma”, both the restaurant and centerpiece of Casa San Agustín, where the energy of gathering locals and guests meets with coastal Colombian cuisine in a vibrant setting.
Guest rooms have a palette of cool refreshing blues and greens, influenced by the Caribbean Sea.
Natural fabrics and textures balance the use of dark wood throughout. Rooms are filled full of bespoke furnishings including ironwork beds, chandelier and one of kind vintage pieces.
Large picture windows and breezy balconies let the natural light pour in and bring nature in. You get the point – it’s heavenly!
And after a busy day exploring the city, you bet we will be parked right here, at this fabulous bar!
