It’s Travel Tuesday and pending financial disaster or not, the Greek Isles are dream-inducing on their own.
Today we head to Mykonos …
And for those who have been, you can surely relate when we say this picturesque island with its maze of tiny streets and whitewashed stepped lanes is ALL about the party! Intense nightlife by dark and recovery on sandy beaches by day — sounds about right. So where do you go if you don’t want to be a part of the scene 24/7?
Up the hill … a 15-minute stroll from the cosmopolitan core of Mykonos Town, Ostraco Suites is a hip hillside hideaway with stunning views of the Aegean Sea (no really, you’ll truly be pinching yourself in this Mediterranean destination).
Surrounded by fragrant gardens of lavender, rosemary and bougainvillea Ostraco offers slope side seclusion with it’s white-washed backdrop. The benefit of being slope side, of course, is the astonishing view of the Agean sea.
This boutique retreat has just 21 rooms and is part of the esteemed Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection.
The lobby is scattered with eco-chic reclaimed furniture: old farm tools–turned–coffee tables, pebbles from the beach fashioned into light fixtures.
A whiter-than-white color scheme flows through the property, from the sleek rooms to the outdoor lounging pergolas.
Each suite is individually decorated, stylish, contemporary rather than modern.
Some are bold and bright, others exude a more rustic charm.
And the blues of the Aegean Sea seem to almost surround you as you make your way around the spacious rooms.
Here white-on-white isn’t a design conceit but a nod to tradition, and antique flourishes sit comfortably alongside sleek modern pieces and smart tiled bathrooms.
Slick mosaic-tiled bathrooms feature rainfall showers and Molton Brown toiletries.
Most of the action takes place poolside.
Surrounded by designer loungers for stylish sun soaking, we aren’t the least bit surprised.
With an intimacy only a small family-owned hotel could provide, Ostraco, open seasonally from May to October, is anything but old-fashioned. They keep pace with the times having switched over to solar heating and adding massage, personal training and yoga instruction at the guests request.
All signs point to being one of those special places with an almost insular oasis … you know, one of those places where you’re bound to meet the other guests. With the on-site mixologist crafting killer cocktails from the edge of classy pool bar, and their BBQ restaurant that serves delicious grilled meats and salads flavored by herbs and vegetables grown on-site, we’ll hedge our bets it’s at the bar!
Picturesque. Elegant. Vibrant. Unpretentious. All things point to not only a design experience, but stay, beyond imagination. Between the soothing views of the Aegean and the laid-back vibe, this intimate, family-run property delivers, we can’t wait to visit!
