Catchy tagline sure, but today meet a brand that lives up to exactly that. Founded by John Feizy over 40 year ago, this once small retail rug store out of Dallas, Texas is now a household name when it comes to fine, hand knotted rugs.
Following a family tradition of buying, selling and collecting Oriental rugs that spanned four generations, he wanted to share the beauty of a vanished world with the public and encourage them to think of their floors as the perfect canvas for these incredible pieces of art.
Venturing to India and Nepal, the weaving capitals of the world here the finest hand knotted rugs are made by craftsmen in the same method that has been used for centuries, he literally hand–selected pieces for his inventory with the utmost care and an expert eye. It takes four artisans as long as six months working side-by-side to produce one, hand-knotted rug. Hand tufted rugs can be made in two months. All rugs are produced overseas. Machine made rugs prominently being produced in Turkey, hand knotted in India, and hand tufted in China.
What started as one retail store transitioned Feizy to a trade only wholesale business as a loyal clientele of interior designers from all over the place quickly fell in love with his concept. Jeff Lewis of Bravo’s “Flipping Out” has long been a fan of Feizy Rugs (as they are of him!) and told us at a recent market that Feizy’s Gramercy in Graphite in his main living area.
Once traditional hand knotted Persian rugs became unforgettable designs in fashionable colors and in a variety of constructions and styles, the writing was on the wall with John, who is far more than just a rug expert, at the helm. A true aficionado of the craft of rug making, his kids Leah and Cameron have followed suit and are now heavily involved in the day-to-day operations with the plan to continue the success of generations past.
With an amazing team of internal designers who work in-house in dallas and overseas, producing on-trend designs year round, and partnerships like that of Tracy Porter with the ‘Poetic Wanderlust’ collection, we picked 3 favorites from their Spring 2015 collection which launched two weeks ago.
