It’s the one time a year when we wish our household was filled full of little happy feet — so we too could participate in March Break rituals.  But alas, someone has to keep working so we can holiday the rest of the year.  In the spirit of Travel Tuesday and being stuck in the still-cold North East, we teleported vis-a-vis this thing called the internet to the Maldives instead!   While we spared the bank account and probably many a travel hassle it seems to have done the inspiration trick, at least for now (it of course moved up the must-visit list too!).

Remote and upscale was just what the doctor ordered – hello Kandolhu Island.  On a small private island in the northern Maldives, the pristine white beaches and thriving coral reef are only accessible by seaplane or speedboat (we’re SO in!).   With 30 villas, some on the beach, others hanging over the clear turquoise Indian ocean, their thatched roofs and wood-plank decks look traditional from the outside.

On the inside however, they are thoroughly modern, with parquet floors, breezy white daybeds, and amenities that range from iPads and espresso machines to mini wine cellars, large flatscreen TVs, and iPhone stereo docks.

Could definitely lap up that view every morning!  And then there is the outdoor playground of a deck.

We could picture ourselves enjoying a great book and cocktail with our other half plunging in the pool on the private deck post running down the stairs snorkeling with the turtles!

And once it’s time to turn in for the night you bet we will be soaking up the evening in that tub, glass of red in hand!

Completely isolated, minimal and modernized amenities that allows you to really enjoy the most special decor you will ever surround yourself with – the ocean and all that it has to offer!  Off to figure out the airport code for Ibrahim Nasir/Malé International Airport; that just isn’t going to work when typing each time.  Oh and they do allow kids (just not under 2) but we bet you would leave them at home for this trip!
