Marc Garneau, Transport Minister of Canada, added parts of Muskoka to an Interim Order list prohibiting navigation in order to protect the safety of people and vessels and to help first responders do their jobs in flooding conditions today (May 1, 2019).
Lake Muskoka, along with the North & South Branches of the Muskoka River and The Moon River are currently NO BOATING zones UNLESS:
- You can only access your property by boat
- Contractors acting as a proxy for property owners
If citizens must use a waterway to access a property, they MUST navigate at as slow a speed as possible – NO WAKE will be tolerated.
Any violations of these provisions are subject to fines or up to 18 months in prison, or the seizure of the vessel.
Thank you so much for the excellent photos and reporting. We are city stranded and heeding your advice to stay home. We long to be up in paradise. Please let us know when the water starts to go down.
Thank you for all of your reporting and by keeping us informed in this dire situation.
We were out to Breezy Point yesterday and find that the ice has gone out for as fas as we could see.
We are finding much damage to docks and boat houses with water higher than we have ever seen before.
Keeping the faith that the waters will recede soon and that we will be able to enjoy “Our Muskoka “ again in the very near future.
We appreciate all of the valuable information you are reporting to those who don’t have direct daily access to their properties.
